What customers say about Thor Protect

Thor Protect reduces pore volume, so moisture is blocked.

On untreated walls, moisture penetrates through pores that are too large in the wall or floor.

Thor Protect crystallizes in the pores. Moisture is blocked while the masonry remains breathable.

Scientifically tested

"Both the primer and the finisher have been scientifically tested for their effectiveness. The experts at the testing institutes were amazed by the reliable effect. Concrete, screed, and brick were treated in the test and, after hardening, exposed to water up to 5 bar. The samples remained watertight."

Do I have to treat the entire wall or just the damp areas?

A small damp spot does not necessarily require treating the entire wall. Basically, you have to know that water finds its way. If I have a damp stain, I should treat 1 meter around it in all directions. In many cases, that is enough. However, if it turns out that the area next to it becomes damp, you really have to work over a large area, preferably the entire wall and at least 0.5 m around the corners.

The wall must be accessible for Thor Protect. Loose plaster must be removed. To check if plaster is loose, the tap test helps. If it sounds hollow, then work is required.

All coatings must be removed, especially those that are not water-permeable. Oil-based paints in particular must be completely removed, even if that might be somewhat laborious. A coat of cheap binder paint is not so problematic, as it is water-permeable. Both primer and finisher can penetrate it and seal the wall.

Nails, hooks, and dowels must be removed. If they stay in, the primer and finisher cannot reach the scene of action: the wall. The holes should then also be closed with the included sealing powder.

The basic rule for application is: For the primer, it can be a bit more; for the finisher, definitely not too much. If significantly too little was applied, then the wall is not sealed. Simply spray the damp areas again. If there was too much, white spots will appear, but these can be painted over. Tip: If you applied too much, simply wipe off the excess with a cloth.

Plastering can be done as early as one day after treatment. The plaster itself is damp and can allow moisture escaping from the wall to pass through. For a very damp wall, however, you should wait a bit longer until the directly visible water escape has stopped. Even a good plaster shouldn't be overburdened. Painting and wallpapering should only be done when the wall feels dry. Some paints and most wallpapers (especially the paste) do not like it if moisture is still coming out of the wall.

If you are sure you did everything correctly, then you need a little patience. As a rule, Thor Protect hardens after 14 days. However, in some cases, it can take up to 6 weeks for the solutions to fully react and for the wall to be closed to liquid water. We work with substrates that don't tell us beforehand whether their pores are tight or wide, whether they have many or few pores, and whether they are a good or poor basis for the crystallization process occurring in the pores. For your peace of mind: Thor Protect always works. In very rare cases, despite correct application, a follow-up treatment is necessary. However, a wall not being sealed at all has not yet occurred.

No. A wiping cloth is sufficient if too much water is still coming out of the wall. Ventilating helps, but a dehumidifier is not required.
